The Nigerian Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has sent condolences to the people of Borno State following a devastating Boko Haram raid on Darajamal community, which killed 63 persons, including five soldiers.
The insurgents, armed with rifles and explosives, invaded the settlement late Friday, destroying shops and homes while terrorising villagers before security reinforcements arrived.
In his reaction, Shettima said through his spokesperson Stanley Nkwocha that the country shares in the grief of the affected families.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, the people of Borno State, and the Nigerian military over the tragic loss of our compatriots,” he said.
He emphasised that President Bola Tinubu has approved the acquisition of advanced surveillance drones and tasked the armed forces with intensifying their strategies against terrorism.
Shettima also stressed the ongoing debate on establishing state police, highlighting that localised law enforcement could better address Nigeria’s security challenges.
The Vice President reassured Borno residents that the Federal Government remains committed to standing by them and ensuring justice for the victims.
