Soludo Describes Support for Tinubu’s Re-election Bid as Unprecedented Political Consensus

ABUJA, October 15, 2026
— Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history.

Soludo made the remarks on Wednesday, October 14, during the inauguration, where he highlighted what he described as a broad alignment of political leaders from different party backgrounds behind Tinubu’s re-election bid.

According to a report by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), the Anambra governor’s address focused on cross-party cooperation, economic policy and the role of political leadership in national development.

Soludo, who was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said his party’s support for Tinubu was driven by shared interests in national unity, security and economic prosperity.

He also cited the participation of approximately 31 state governors at the gathering as an indication of the breadth of political alignment around the President. However, the participation of political figures at the event does not necessarily constitute a formal endorsement by every governor or reflect the position of the wider electorate.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) also examined the economic philosophy underpinning the Tinubu administration’s policies, describing its approach as pragmatic progressivism.

Drawing on his background as an economist, Soludo argued that the administration had demonstrated a willingness to confront structural economic challenges rather than defer difficult policy decisions.

He maintained that the government inherited an economy under considerable pressure and had introduced reforms intended to stabilise the economy and create conditions for sustainable growth.

Soludo also pointed to Tinubu’s understanding of public finance as a factor shaping the administration’s reform agenda, arguing that its economic decisions should be assessed against the structural challenges facing Nigeria before and after the President assumed office.

While supporters of the administration have cited its economic adjustments and reform initiatives as steps towards recovery, critics have raised concerns about the pace at which the benefits are reaching ordinary Nigerians.

Soludo, however, maintained that the administration’s approach demonstrated a commitment to tackling long-standing economic problems and laying the groundwork for future prosperity.

His participation in the APC campaign council’s inauguration also highlighted the possibility of political cooperation across party lines, given his membership of APGA.

The FORCEPA Media and Publicity Team noted that Soludo’s remarks placed economic policy, institutional performance and national development at the centre of discussions surrounding the 2027 presidential election.

The forum further emphasised the role of public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with accurate information on public-sector performance.
