Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has accepted the resignation of his Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi, and appointed Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, popularly known as Wolekanle, as his replacement.
Ogunwuyi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated Monday, October 12, 2026, and took immediate effect.
In the letter, the former Chief of Staff expressed appreciation to Makinde for the opportunity to serve the people of Oyo State and contribute to the achievements of his administration.
However, he did not immediately disclose a specific reason for his decision to resign.
According to Vanguard, a source familiar with the development linked Ogunwuyi’s resignation to internal political disagreements within Makinde’s camp ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The source also suggested that Ogunwuyi might be considering defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), although the reported move has not been confirmed.
“There have been internal disagreements within the political camp, and Ogunwuyi’s resignation has further fuelled speculation about possible realignments ahead of the 2027 elections,” the source said.
The source added that there were indications Ogunwuyi could be considering joining the APC but cautioned that the possibility could not be confirmed at the time.
As of the time of filing this report, Ogunwuyi had neither confirmed nor denied the reported defection speculation.
Makinde Names New Chief of Staff
Meanwhile, Makinde has appointed Wolekanle as the new Chief of Staff to the governor.
The governor also named Mrs Aderonke Adedayo as Director-General of the Oyo State Due Process Office.
Both appointments take immediate effect, according to appointment letters signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.
The changes come as political activities and alignments begin to attract attention ahead of the 2027 elections.
