Africa’s oil processing industry is set for a major boost following the launch of a refinery project by Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote and Kenyan President William Ruto.
The project, designed to supply petroleum products to Kenya and other countries in East Africa, is expected to strengthen the region’s refining capacity and reduce its dependence on imported petroleum products.
Dangote and Ruto officially launched the project with a groundbreaking ceremony on September 30, 2026.
Construction of the refinery is expected to take approximately 40 months to complete.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to become a significant addition to Africa’s oil processing industry, with the potential to improve the availability of refined petroleum products across East Africa.
The project is also expected to support regional energy security by increasing local refining capacity and reducing reliance on supplies from outside the region.
