APC Chairman Yilwatda Defends Tinubu’s Tax Reforms, Says Fuel Price Hike Temporary

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has defended President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying the administration’s tax reforms have benefited the poorest Nigerians.

Yilwatda said the new tax regime had expanded the tax net and increased government revenue, while insisting that the economic difficulties currently facing the country would not last forever.

Speaking on the administration’s reforms, the APC chairman maintained that the government’s policies were designed to improve the economy and provide relief to vulnerable citizens.

He also highlighted developments in the power sector, claiming that the APC-led government had empowered state governments to generate, transmit and distribute electricity.

“What we are passing through (in Nigeria), for example, at this moment, is temporary. The increase in the cost of fuel is temporary. Nigerians believe in us,” Yilwatda said.

On the political front, the APC national chairman said the party was adopting a three-pronged approach to address grievances arising from its recent primary elections.

He also disclosed that the party leadership was reviewing the list of members of its presidential campaign council ahead of its planned inauguration.

Yilwatda further argued that the inability of opposition parties, including the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to win elections before 2027 would give the ruling party an advantage.

His remarks come amid continuing political debate over the impact of the Tinubu administration’s tax reforms, fuel prices and electricity sector policies.
