ADC Urges Security Agencies to Protect Political Participation in Rivers

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on security agencies to protect the constitutional rights and safety of political actors in Rivers State following remarks by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The party urged security agencies to take note of the minister’s comments and ensure that political actors can participate freely in democratic activities.

“We therefore call on the relevant security agencies to take note of the minister’s remarks and ensure that the constitutional rights and safety of all political actors are protected,” the party stated.

The ADC also questioned Wike’s focus on the political activities of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, urging the minister to concentrate on his responsibilities in the FCT.

The party said its priority was to provide Nigerians with an alternative political platform and ensure that residents of Rivers State could freely choose their leaders.

“Rivers State is not anybody’s inheritance. Democracy is not a private franchise. And no minister holds the licence to determine who may or may not campaign in Rivers State,” the statement added.
