Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has relieved all commissioners and top public officials in his administration of their duties, with immediate effect, following a recent Supreme Court ruling.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued by Chief Press Secretary (CPS) Nelson Chukwudi on Wednesday evening in Port Harcourt.
During a farewell cabinet session held at the Government House to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day, Fubara extended appreciation to his commissioners, acknowledging their contributions toward the state’s growth over the past two years.
In his statement, he declared: “Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has thanked members of his cabinet for their services and contributions to the development of the State in the last two years. The governor highlighted the significance of Nigeria’s Independence and called on all Nigerians to work together with Mr President to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous country and a brighter future for all.”
The Governor also pledged to continue his duties with greater energy and extended Independence Day greetings to all citizens.
This dismissal follows a political stalemate triggered months ago when Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retired), as interim administrator, dissolved boards, suspended cabinet members, and left many appointees’ futures uncertain. His exit on September 18 paved the way for the Governor’s decisive action.
