Man Arrested for Brutal Machete Attack on 14-Year-Old Girl in Abia After Failed Rape Attempt
A 33-year-old man, identified as Chinazum Nwaubani, is currently in police custody for allegedly attacking a 14-year-old girl, Felicia Anaba, with a machete after she resisted his sexual advances. The horrific incident occurred in Obete Nchina Village, Ntighauzo community, in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
Felicia, accompanied by her twin brother, had reportedly gone to fetch firewood in a nearby bush when the suspect approached them. According to sources, Nwaubani attempted to rape the teenager, but she resisted. Her twin brother managed to escape and raise the alarm. In a fit of rage, the suspect allegedly drew a machete and inflicted deep cuts on the victim’s head, hand, and leg before fleeing the scene.
Felicia was later found unconscious in a pool of blood by a search party and rushed to a hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Her father, Mr. Chijioke Anaba, revealed that the girl fell into a coma due to excessive blood loss.
In a troubling development, Mr. Anaba alleged that officers at the Eastern Ngwa Police Division demanded N30,000 to officially register the case. He expressed fear that the suspect, who hails from the same village, might be released under claims of mental illness.
“The police told me the boy is mad, but that’s not true. He’s lived with us in the village for years. I’m worried my daughter may be permanently disabled from the injuries. I appeal to the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, to come to our aid,” he said.
However, the Abia State Police Command has refuted claims of monetary demand. In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that the command had not received any formal complaint regarding the alleged bribe.
“We have no such report, as no one has come forward with evidence. Anyone with credible information is encouraged to contact our Complaint Response Unit,” she said.
DSP Chinaka confirmed the arrest of the suspect and provided details of the case:
“The suspect, armed with a machete, reportedly ordered the female twin to undress. Upon her refusal, he attacked her with the weapon. Her brother managed to escape and alert the family. The police responded swiftly and arrested the suspect. The girl was taken to the hospital and investigations are ongoing.”
As of the time of this report, the police have yet to release any official findings on the suspect’s mental health status. Authorities, however, assured the public that justice would be served.
