Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is back in Abuja after truncating his planned European vacation. The presidential jet, an Airbus A330, touched down at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 6:50 pm on Tuesday.
The trip, which began on September 4, was meant to last 10 days, with stops in Paris and London. However, Tinubu unexpectedly ended it without providing an official reason.
His return coincides with a critical domestic event—the expiration of the emergency rule imposed in Rivers State. The oil-rich region, under six months of federal emergency governance, sees its mandate lapse this Thursday.
Since assuming office, the 73-year-old President has embarked on 15 international journeys in 2025, mixing diplomacy, investment discussions, and periods of personal rest.
Analysts suggest that the abrupt return underscores Tinubu’s awareness of the delicate balance between international visibility and domestic governance, particularly in times of sensitive political developments.
