Nigeria Overcomes Osimhen Injury Scare to Defeat Rwanda in World Cup Qualifier

Nigeria’s Super Eagles earned a crucial 1-0 victory over Rwanda in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, with a determined performance at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.

The decisive moment came early in the second half when Tolu Arokodare found himself at the right place, seizing on a loose ball in the area and sending it past Rwanda’s shot-stopper.

While the first half ended goalless, Nigeria’s defense, led by Calvin Bassey, ensured Rwanda’s tactical changes posed little danger. The home fans, however, were left concerned when Napoli striker Victor Osimhen limped off the field before halftime. He was replaced by Cyril Dessers, whose pressing added intensity to the attack.

This win takes Nigeria to 10 points from 7 games in Group C, leapfrogging Rwanda, who remain on 8 points.

Supporters praised the team’s fighting spirit but remain anxious over Osimhen’s condition, which could influence upcoming matches.

With several fixtures remaining, the Eagles’ path to qualification still demands consistency and sharper execution in front of goal.
