The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has moved swiftly to stabilize its administrative structure with the appointment of Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan as Acting Head of Service.
Why the Appointment Was Necessary
Her appointment follows the sudden death of Mrs. Grace Adayilo, who passed away last week. Adayilo was a historic figure, becoming the first female and first indigenous Head of Service when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved her appointment in October 2024.
Statement From FCTA
A statement released on Tuesday morning by the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, explained that Mrs. Nathan’s new role would be on an acting basis until a substantive appointment is made.
Experience and Credentials
Mrs. Nathan, a seasoned administrator and a member of the National Institute (mni), brings extensive experience. She served most recently as Permanent Secretary of the Youth Development Secretariat of the FCTA. She also held the position of Director of Finance and Administration in the office of the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
What It Means for the Capital’s Administration
Observers believe Nathan’s appointment underscores the government’s intention to maintain continuity and stability within the FCT civil service. If she eventually becomes the substantive Head of Service, she will be the second female to occupy the office since the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission in 2023.
