Nigeria’s Ministry of Interior has announced that October 1, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday to mark the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The declaration was made in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
In his message, the Minister extended congratulations to Nigerians worldwide, stressing the importance of patriotism, resilience, and unity in sustaining the nation. He reminded citizens of Nigeria’s historic independence from Britain on October 1, 1960.
Quoting directly, Tunji-Ojo said: “He urged Nigerians to further keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.”
He further assured that, with citizens’ cooperation, Nigeria would remain on the path of peace, progress, and development.
This year’s commemoration carries the theme: “Nigeria @65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation.” The celebrations opened with interfaith prayers in mosques and churches across the nation.
The Minister concluded by wishing all Nigerians a happy and memorable Independence Day celebration.
