A major power crisis struck Nigeria on Wednesday after the collapse of the national electricity grid, leaving millions of households and industries in blackout.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) disclosed the incident in a statement posted on its X handle, noting that the outage was recorded at 11:23 a.m. on September 10, 2025.
The distribution company said: “Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas.”
In its follow-up assurance, AEDC explained that it was collaborating with relevant stakeholders in the power sector to restore supply as quickly as possible.
“Rest assured, we are working closely with the relevant stakeholders to ensure power is restored once the grid is stabilised,” the statement read. The firm also shared customer service hotlines for complaints and inquiries.
This latest collapse adds to Nigeria’s long-running electricity instability, which experts say continues to stifle productivity, worsen inflation, and frustrate small businesses relying on power supply.
