Nigerians can’t silence me over comments on DJ Cuppy
British boxer Ryan Taylor has responded to criticism from Nigerians following a comment he made about his former fiancĂ©e, Florence Otedola—widely known as DJ Cuppy.
The backlash erupted after Taylor posted a Father’s Day tribute on Instagram, where he shared a picture of himself with his daughter and expressed his hopes of combating racism by raising mixed-race children.
Amid reactions to the post, a user remarked that the child resembled DJ Cuppy. In response, Taylor appeared to take a dig at the Nigerian DJ.
He wrote, “She wasn’t enough of a woman to even fathom creating such a beautiful creation like mine. Please leave me and don’t come back.”
The comment, aimed at his ex, sparked online outrage and triggered widespread criticism.
Addressing the controversy, Taylor said Nigerians have been attacking both him and his current partner over the issue.
He defended his statement, insisting he had every right to speak freely, noting that no agreement existed restricting his freedom of expression.
His words read, “Today is a special day. Nigerians gotta chill out, you come for the mother of my child and think I won’t back it? Don’t come on my page talking shit and cry when I speak. I NEVER signed the Contract. I will always say what I want and do what is right for me or my family. I haven’t said shit yet everyone gotta chill.”
