In a statement as part of the "A Goal in Life" charity campaign, Messi revealed that the goal he deems the top pick of his career was his looping header over Edwin van der Sar in the final of the 2008/09 Champions League against Manchester United.

The moment came in Rome in 2009, when with Barcelona already up 1-0, Xavi floated in a pinpoint cross, and the 5’7” Argentine somehow rose above the much taller defenders to head the ball into the net.
