In a groundbreaking move to champion entrepreneurship and combat the scourge of unemployment among Nigerian youths, five enterprising members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been awarded business grants totaling over N3.2 million. This initiative underscores the NYSC’s unwavering commitment to fostering self-reliance and economic growth among graduates.
The announcement was made by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, in a statement released on Sunday. The statement, signed by the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, highlighted the organization’s steadfast dedication to supporting Corps Members with viable business ideas.
Bridging the Unemployment Gap
Brigadier General Ahmed reiterated his administration’s resolve to partner with stakeholders committed to empowering Corps Members toward self-employment. He emphasized that this aligns with his five-point policy thrust, which prioritizes reducing unemployment rates among graduate youths in Nigeria.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that young Nigerian graduates are equipped with the necessary tools to become self-reliant,” Ahmed declared, adding that partnerships with forward-thinking organizations are key to achieving this vision.

According to the statement, the first three recipients were awarded N750,000 each, while the latter two received N350,000 each. Their business ventures span various sectors, including fashion, food and confectionaries, and horticulture, showcasing the diversity and creativity of Nigerian youths.

The grants were presented at the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, by Love Uloko, the Founder of Activate Success International Foundation.
